Positive Attitudes

SAFETY ALERT

 POSITIVE ATTITUDES TOWARDS SAFETY:

Making improvements in Safety requires a positive / can do attitude to have any success.  Here are attitudes that every ICM employee must develop if we are to make any gains in our Safety performance.  Remember the goal is zero incidents, not zero injuries.

  1. Incidents / Injuries can be prevented
  2. Preventing incidents and injuries is more important than blaming the people who cause them
  3. Safety rules and regulations are reasonable and important
  4. My co-workers will respect me for practicing Safety
  5. Safety is a mark of intelligence and skill
  6. Taking chances / shortcuts is not acceptable
  7. I have a responsibility to do something toward correcting any hazard that I identify
  8. I have a responsibility to be a Safety Leader

Every person working for ICM can impact Safety for themselves and their co-workers.

Eye Injuries are continuing to be a challenge within the company.  More focus on eye safety is needed when performing your job tasks.  Just using the required personal protective equipment is not enough.  The fit of the equipment is critical to keeping debris out of your eyes.  Check the coverage of your safety glasses around your eye socket.  Always pull the face shield completely over your face and form the shield at the sides for best coverage.  Brush off hair and eyebrows when completing job tasks.

Be aware of co-workers when using power tools such as grinders.  Never spray grind debris toward a co-worker, either ask them to move or re-position yourself so the grind dust flies away from others.
