RMSM Electric Arc Furnace


All furnace components were pre-assembled off-site in as large a segment as possible. The tilt platform was shipped to ICM in eight (8) segments and assembled off-site by ICM. Total weight was 180,000# when installed in one piece. By sub-assembling the furnace components, ICM was able to install the complete furnace, in 34 days, after the foundations were complete. The largest component weighed nearly 300,000#.

Inside upper shell	All furnace foundations were pre-fabricated off-site using plate forms and internal ties. Foundation forms were rigged into place in two sections complete with all reinforcing. The allowed form work to progress concurrent with demolition from the completion of the old furnace foundations to the placing of the 585 cubic yard new arc furnace foundation in 3 days.
